Supported Media File Types

Ots Studio is capable of converting various Media file types to Ots files, which can then be played in Ots-based playout software, such as OtsAV.

Most audio types can be converted to Ots files, providing you have the relevant DirectShow Filter installed on your system. In simple terms, if the audio file can play in Windows Media Player , Ots Studio should be able to convert it to an Ots file.

Note: Files with DRM (Digital Rights Management) are not supported.

The following file types can be converted to Ots files, without the need for any additional software:

MP3 (.mp3):  Commonly used for compressed audio files.

MP3+G  (.mp3 + .cdg): Commonly used for Karaoke files.

MPEG Layer 2 audio (.mp2):  Commonly used for compressed audio files and as part of MPEG Video streams.

PCM (.wav): Uncompressed audio, and is the underlying format for audio CDs. (Store as uncompressed PCM option must be flagged in Ots Studio Encoder Settings, otherwise additional software required if encoding to MP3... Lame encoder.).

CD Audio (CD Ripping): Standard Audio Compact Discs. (Store as uncompressed PCM option must be flagged in Ots Studio Encoder Settings, otherwise additional software required if encoding to MP3... Lame encoder.).

CD+G  Discs (Compact Disc + Graphics): Commonly used for Karaoke compilations. (Store as uncompressed PCM option must be flagged in Ots Studio Encoder Settings, otherwise additional software required if encoding to MP3... Lame encoder.).

MPEG1 Video (ISO11172)(.mpg): VHS quality video files. Used with Video CD. (Normally accompanied with MPEG Layer 2 audio. If accompanied with LPCM or AC3 audio, see information for respective DVD (unencrypted)(.vob) LPCM or AC3 below).

MPEG2 Video (ISO13818)(.mpg): Higher quality than MPEG1, and is the underlying format for DVDs. (Normally accompanied with MPEG Layer 2 audio. If accompanied with LPCM or AC3 audio, see information for respective DVD (unencrypted)(.vob) LPCM or AC3 below).

DVD (unencrypted)(.vob) with MPEG Layer 2 audio: Native DVD file format.

DVD (unencrypted)(.vob) with LPCM audio: Native DVD file format. (Store as uncompressed PCM option must be flagged in Ots Studio Encoder Settings, otherwise additional software required if encoding to MP3... Lame encoder.).

Transport Stream Video (.ts) with MPEG Layer 2 audio: Used for Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). Computer based Digital TV capture cards often use this file format.

Transport Stream Video (.ts) with LPCM audio: Used for Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). Computer based Digital TV capture cards often use this file format. (Store as uncompressed PCM option must be flagged in Ots Studio Encoder Settings, otherwise additional software required if encoding to MP3... Lame encoder.).

The file types below can be converted to Ots files, however additional software must first be installed on your system (the required additional software is listed near each file type):

Note: All media file types that require additional software will have their audio re-sampled to the settings within the Ots Studio Encoder Settings (Lame encoder (MP3) or uncompressed PCM). To encode to MP3 the Lame encoder must be installed and configured in Ots Studio.

DVD (unencrypted)(.vob) with AC3 audio: Native DVD file format. Additional software required... AC3 Filter.

Transport Stream Video (.ts) with AC3 audio: Used for Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). Computer based Digital TV capture cards often use this file format. Additional software required... AC3 Filter.

Windows Media Audio (.wma): Another type of compressed audio file, created by Windows Media Player. Additional software required... Windows Media Player.

Note: Files with DRM (Digital Rights Management) are not supported.

Monkey's Audio (.ape): Compressed audio file format. Additional software required... Monkey's Audio.

Free Lossless Audio Codec (.flac): Compressed audio file format. Additional software required... FLAC.

Ogg Vorbis (.ogg): Compressed audio file format. Additional software required... Ogg Vorbis.

MPEG4-AAC Advanced Audio Coding (.mpa): Compressed audio file format, commonly used with Apple's iTunes. Additional software required... AAC Filter.

Note: Files with DRM (Digital Rights Management) are not supported.

Other audio file types: If the relevant DirectShow Filter is installed on your system, other audio file types will normally work in the same way as the above mentioned ones.

Note: If your Media files do not contain Mpeg encoded audio (MP3, MP2), the audio from your files will either be converted to MP3, using the settings in the Lame encoder, or uncompressed PCM if this option is enabled.
