Preparing your media collection

Being able to play Wave and MP3 files directly in OtsAV enables you to get OtsAV up and running quickly with your current media collection. However, over time you will most probably find that the Ots Album file format will provide you with greater functionality and flexibility. We recommend that our customers eventually migrate their collection to the Ots Album format for a number of advantageous reasons, but this is not an absolute requirement. For information on the Ots Album file format click here. For information on the Ots file conversion process, please see below.

Before you load your media collection into OtsAV we recommend that you spend a little bit of time preparing your collection. A little work now may save you "clean up" time in the future.

Tip: You can quickly convert your entire media collection to Ots files using the Batch Conversion Utility in Ots Studio. See the Ots Studio documentation for more information.

How to prepare your MP3 files

OtsAV will use the MP3 filename to extract song Title and Artist information, and the ID3v1 tag for categorization purposes. We recommend that you make sure your MP3 files have the correct ID3v1 tag information, and make sure the filename follows the standard naming convention, which is Artist - Title.mp3.

Note: If your MP3 ID3v1 tags contain the Genre and/or Release information you can quickly and efficiently categorize your MP3 files based on this information. Click here for details.

How to prepare your Wave files

OtsAV will retrieve the Wave filename for labelling purposes. We recommend that you make sure your Wave filenames follow the standard naming convention, which is Artist - Title.wav.
